Dear colleagues, dear friends, fellow crystallographers,
This year, European Crystallographic Association (ECA) and Croatian Association of Crystallographers (CAC) organize jointly the Third European Crystallography School (ECS3), which will take place from Sep. 25th to Oct. 2nd, 2016 in Bol, an enchanting Croatian summer resort at the island of Brač, a peaceful place of exceptional beauty and natural harmony.
ECS3 concept focuses on deepening the students’ previously acquired basic knowledge of crystallography (both powder diffraction and single crystal) through excessive series of cutting edge quality lectures to be delivered by best available teachers, extensive hands-ons and relaxing yet strongly focused evening Q&A sessions. The school is divided into five modules: it starts with a comprehensive math refresher, continues with the common foundations of X-ray diffraction, then splits the students into two focus groups – for powder diffraction and for single crystal diffraction, only to reunite them at the very end for the series of lectures dealing with the applications of crystallography, novel developments and complementary techniques in structure elucidation. Therefore, ECS3 is not to be “yet another crystallography school”, but is envisaged as a top quality training in crystallography, primarily intended to those who already know the basics, but need to make a crucial step forward towards the genuine understanding of the very essence of symmetry and diffraction, as well as of the mathematical and physical backgrounds lying behind the processes of solving and refining the crystal structures.
We are looking forward meeting you in Bol!
Sincerely yours,
Jasminka Popović Aleksandar Višnjevac Marijana Đaković
